KABUL: The Ministry of Finance has announced the purchase and installation of five scanners to inspect and assess passengers’ belongings at three customs facilities across Afghanistan.
The ministry’s General Directorate of Customs said the scanners were purchased at a total cost of 39.2 million Afghanis and that their installation has now been completed.
According to the ministry, two scanners have been installed at the Islam Qala Customs facility in Herat province, two at the Torkham Customs facility in Nangarhar province, and one at the Khost Airport Customs facility.
The Ministry of Finance said the scanners are expected to make the inspection and assessment of passengers’ belongings faster and more accurate while also increasing transparency in the inspection process.
The ministry added that the cost of purchasing and installing the scanners was covered by its development budget.
