KABUL: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on Sunday and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Reuters, Merz is expected to announce a new German aid package for Ukraine during his visit, including €1 billion in military assistance and €350 million for rebuilding the country’s energy sector.
Germany and Ukraine are also expected to finalize an agreement on the joint production of various types of unmanned aircraft.
At the same time as the German chancellor arrived in Kyiv, air raid sirens were heard in the city, along with sounds of explosions. Reports said Russian attacks on parts of Kyiv were continuing.
