TTP warns governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will have adverse consequences

KABUL: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has called the decision to impose governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as “coercive and oppressive,” warning that the move could have adverse consequences.
In a statement, the group said the imposition of governor’s rule by Pakistan’s military establishment and federal government ran counter to the wishes of the people of the province and their demands for greater regional autonomy.
The group also claimed that several religious and political parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had rejected governor’s rule, accusing the federal government of using certain provisions of Pakistan’s Constitution to advance its political objectives.
TTP said the governor’s rule had been announced in the name of restoring peace and order in the province, and alleged that the federal government and military leadership had not given sufficient priority to achieving peace and security through their policies.
The group called on the public, particularly those who believe their rights have been violated, to take “practical action” against Pakistan’s military establishment and support its opposition to the authorities.
TTP’s remarks come amid continuing political and public reactions to the announcement of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
