KABUL: An airstrike targeting a gold mine in an area of Sudan near the Egyptian border has killed around 200 people and injured hundreds of others, according to local reports.
Residents and survivors said some mine workers remained trapped beneath the rubble, raising fears that the death toll could increase as rescue efforts continue.
Residents alleged that the Egyptian military carried out the attack. They said Egyptian forces had previously maintained a presence in the area and prevented people from entering it.
The Egyptian government has not yet issued an official statement on the reported airstrike or confirmed the allegations that its forces were responsible.
