Putin: Russia seeks a lasting peace agreement to end war in Ukraine

KABUL: Russian President Vladimir Putin says Moscow is ready to resume U.S.-mediated peace talks with Ukraine and wants future negotiations to focus on security guarantees for Russia, Ukraine and Europe as a whole.

Speaking to Russian media a day after meeting U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Putin said Russia was seeking a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement rather than a temporary ceasefire.

He added that future negotiations should focus on establishing security arrangements capable of creating long-term stability in the region.

Putin indicated that Russia was prepared to resume U.S.-mediated negotiations with Ukraine as early as next month.

According to the reports Moscow has agreed in principle to restart trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States.
