India detains four Pakistani fishermen in Sir Creek

KABUL: Indian security forces have detained four Pakistani fishermen in the Sir Creek maritime area between India’s Gujarat state and Pakistan’s Sindh province, and seized their boat.

Noor Mohammad Taimoor, deputy head of the Fisherfolk Forum, said the fishermen were detained while they were at sea fishing. They have been accused of violating the maritime boundary.

According to Taimoor, the detained fishermen were identified as Abdul Qadir Taimoor, Mohammad Musa, Asghar Taimoor and Ehsan and they are residents of Chacha Jahan Khan in Sindh’s Sujawal district.

Sir Creek is a roughly 96-kilometre-long tidal estuary located between Gujarat and Sindh.

India and Pakistan have a longstanding dispute over the maritime boundary in the area.
