JALALABAD: As many as 1,700 residential houses will be built for Afghan returnees by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), in Nangarhar, the provincial Refugees and Repatriations Department said in a statement on Thursday.
The officials of the NRC discussed the construction of the houses in a meeting with the director of the refugees and repatriations of Nangarhar Baz Mohammad Abdul Rahman, according to the statement.
“Based on our plan, the homes are expected to be constructed in the upcoming year (2025),” they said.
The statement further mentioned that some homes for certain migrants will be repaired, and cash assistance will also be provided to other returning migrants.
This comes at a time when hundreds of Afghan migrant families are being forcibly returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan on a daily basis.
