KABUL: The Governor of Herat province, Shaikh Mawlana Islamjar, on Sunday kicked off a vaccination drive, vaccinating 304,377 children under the age of 5 in the province.
Addressing the campaign governor of Herat said that his-led province is committed to seriously fight toward eradicating polio across the province.
He also asked the provincial directorates to seriously work for the eradication of polio in the province.
The polio virus causes permanent paralysis and, in some cases, even death, but vaccinating children can prevent contracting this disease.
Polio remains endemic in Afghanistan, making it one of the last two countries in the world where the disease persists.
