Over 4,000 traffic accidents claim 2,000 lives this year

KABUL: The Traffic Department has reported that more than 4,000 traffic accidents have been registered on Afghanistan’s main roads this year.

Haseebullah Mukhtar, head of the Traffic Department, stated: “The incidents have resulted in the deaths of 2,000 citizens and injured approximately 700 others”.

The most recent deadly incident occurred on the Kabul-Kandahar highway, as a result of which 200 individuals were martyred and wounded.

The main reason behind the increase in traffic accidents in the country are called poor quality roads, traffic congestion and lack of awareness of drivers from the traffic rules.
