KABUL: The Embassy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Islamabad said in a statement today that the Pakistani government is beginning the process of expelling all Afghan migrants from Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The action by the Pakistani government is being taken without coordination with the Afghan Embassy or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said the statement.
The statement noted that Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the plan to expel all Afghan migrants, except those holding valid visas, is finalized and imminent.
According to the statement, the decision also includes Afghan migrants holding ACC and POR cards.
The embassy has expressed its concerns regarding this unilateral decision in its meetings with Pakistani officials and international organizations, particularly given the short notice.
This comes amid ongoing forcible expulsions of Afghan migrants and mistreatment by the Pakistani police since 2023.
