World Bank office opens in Kabul; $45 million in contractual debt to be paid

KABUL: The Ministry of Finance has said that with the efforts and cooperation of the ministry the World Bank opening its branch in Kabul.
In a statement released today, the ministry indicated that $45 million in contractual debts to Afghan and foreign contracts with the World Bank will be paid in four phases.
According to the Ministry of Finance, companies and contractors whose documents have been reviewed through the Ministry and the World Bank’s Third Party Monitoring Agency (TPMA) will receive their payments.
In the first phase, $9.3 million will be paid directly to foreign companies; in the second phase, $16.8 million will be paid through the Ministry of Finance, with the remaining debts settled in the third and fourth phases.
The Ministry of Finance regards the commencement of these payments from the World Bank as a significant step and a result of the policies of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
It is noteworthy that the status of national and international financial transactions in the country is improving day by day.
