Fig Exports from Kandahar increase by over two-fold

KABUL: Local officials in Kandahar province have announced that fig exports from this province to foreign countries have more than doubled compared to last year.
The media office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in a statement said that this year, 29,784 tons of figs were exported from Kandahar, while last year’s figure stood at 13,206 tons.
According to the officials, the majority of the exported figs have been sent to countries such as the United Arab Emirates, India, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, China, Canada, Nepal, Germany, and Saudi Arabia.
The statement noted that fig exports were carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, and national traders.
Kandahar is one of the provinces in the south of Afghanistan that produces the highest yields of figs annually from its orchards.
