KABUL: Officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives from DP World company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for joint cooperation.
The MoU was signed today, at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, where Mufti Abdullah Azzam, head of the office of the Deputy PM, stated that the agreement paves the way for contracts and foreign investments, allowing the country’s ports to be equipped with modern technology and facilities.
Under the signed document, the facilities for the transfer of commercial goods at the country’s ports will be expanded, and operational and management tasks will be conducted using modern equipment in accordance with international standards.
In the first phase after the signing of the MoU, the “Hairatan” port, located between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, will be upgraded, followed by the “Torkham” crossing along the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistan in the second phase, with modern facilities and infrastructures according to international standards.
This comes at a time when Afghanistan’s trade with regional and global countries is expanding daily, making standardization a primary necessity.
