KABUL: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Islamic Emirate’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, during his trip to Herat, met with Turkmenistan’s National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
According to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the TAPI gas pipeline project in Torghundi, Herat, as well as future joint economic activities between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
In the meeting, Baradar called on Turkmenistan to support major economic projects in Afghanistan, particularly in the electricity and transportation sectors.
He said work on the TAPI project in Herat was progressing well and expressed hope that the remaining work would be completed on schedule.
Baradar also stressed that the two countries should reach an agreement on gas pricing and adjust the pricing formula to reduce the impact of sharp fluctuations in European gas markets on gas prices.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan’s National Leader emphasized the need for joint efforts to activate the Lapis Lazuli Corridor to increase trade between the two countries and the wider region. He said Ashgabat was ready to provide all necessary facilities at Turkmenbashi Port for Afghanistan’s transit and commercial goods.
