Nearly 1,100 Afghan migrants return to country in one day

KABUL: The High Commission for Addressing Refugees Issues said in a statement that 229 Afghan families, comprising 1,065 people, returned to Afghanistan and were registered through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Pul-e Abrisham and Islam Qala crossings in a single day.

141 families returned through Torkham, three through Spin Boldak, 74 through Pul-e Abrisham and 11 through Islam Qala, said the statement, adding that 210 families, totaling 1,124 people, were transported to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Kabul and other provinces, with nearly 1.9 million Afghanis paid in transportation costs.

Meanwhile, around 1.9 million Afghanis in financial assistance was provided to 225 returning families, and health, food and telecommunications services were also made available to the returnees.

The statement further added that 145 SIM cards with active packages were distributed to them.
