KABUL: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says a large oil tanker attempting to pass through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz struck two sea mines, resulting in a major fire that brought the vessel to a complete stop.
Iran’s state television, citing the IRGC Navy, reported that the tanker had failed to comply with regulations imposed by Iran for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC warned in a statement that vessels violating what it described as the security regulations of the Strait of Hormuz could face a similar fate.
Tensions over maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and the international community have increased in recent weeks.
