KABUL: Israel is concerned about the possibility of renewed war with Iran and a potential Iranian missile response, Axios reported, citing warnings by Israel’s military chief.
According to the report, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir warned his U.S. counterpart, General Dan Caine, that renewed hostilities with Iran within the next three weeks could lead to a delay in Israel’s elections, as Tehran might retaliate by launching hundreds of ballistic missiles.
The report added that Israel is also concerned about the possibility of Iran using the so-called “Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La” facility for uranium enrichment.
Meanwhile, the White House has rejected reports that U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed restarting the war with Iran, saying the United States would not attack Iran before the midterm elections.
Axios also reported that Qatari mediators are still waiting for Iran’s response to Washington’s latest proposal to end the war.
A U.S. official described the negotiations as neither completely stalled nor actively progressing, adding that Washington would continue to increase pressure on Tehran.
