Central Bank burns nearly 900 mln, worn-out AFG Banknotes

KABUL: The country’s Central Bank said in a statement that based on articles 39 and 42 of the Bank’s law, it has burned over 8.8 million worn-out Afghani banknotes.

Mullah Mohammad Akhund, the Second Deputy of the Central Bank, during the burning of the money, urged the citizens of the country to pay serious attention to the preservation and maintenance of banknotes.

“Attention to the preservation and keeping of banknotes prevents them from worn out,” the statement quoted him as saying.

According to the statement, the worn-out banknotes were burned in the presence of a joint team from the Ministries of Justice, Finance, and relevant agencies, after being transported to the bank’s furnaces.

The Central Bank, to maintain and preserve Afghan currency, periodically injects new money into the market and collects damaged banknotes.
