Afghanistan seeks formal diplomatic relations with U.S. and world, Balkhi says

KABUL: Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, says the Islamic Emirate wants to establish formal diplomatic relations with the United States and other countries of the world.

Speaking to CBS, Balkhi said Afghanistan’s frozen central bank assets belonged to the country and that keeping them blocked was not in the Afghan people’s interests.

Balkhi also said the Islamic Emirate would not negotiate over Afghanistan’s banking assets or military equipment.

The foreign ministry spokesman further said Afghan territory would not be used against any country and stressed that the Islamic Emirate sought engagement and cooperation with the international community.
