KABUL: Iranian state media has reported the execution of Babak Shahbaz, an alleged spy for the Israeli military intelligence agency, Mossad, as ordered by the country’s judiciary.
According to ISNA news agency today, Shahbaz, a citizen of Iran, was sentenced to death for direct espionage on behalf of the Israeli military intelligence, having collaborated with a hostile foreign government in exchange for money and residency outside of Iran.
Reports indicate that Shahbaz had access to sensitive security, military, and telecommunications centers in Iran as a designer and installer of cooling systems for contracted projects.
Investigations revealed that he shared sensitive information with Mossad officers during his detention by Iranian security and judicial authorities.
The death sentence was issued by the court and subsequently confirmed by Iran’s Supreme Court before being executed.
This comes amid an intensified crackdown on alleged Mossad spies in Iran following the recent 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel.
