KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had a “very productive” phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
Trump said in a statement on his X this morning, that he and the Chinese President agreed to meet on the sidelines of the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit, which will be held in South Korea in a month.
He stated, “We progressed on many important issues, including trade, fentanyl, the necessity to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the TikTok agreement.”
Trump also mentioned that he plans to visit Beijing for an official trip in early 2026, and at an appropriate time, Xi Jinping will also visit Washington.
The White House leader indicated that he would have another phone conversation with the Chinese President.
Trump expressed gratitude for the progress made between Beijing and Washington regarding TikTok.
This meeting between Trump and Xi comes amid heightened tensions in U.S.-China relations, particularly in the area of trade, over the past few months.
