Bill Gates Foundation announces nearly $1 billion in aid to combat AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria

KABUL: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced an allocation of $912 million to combat global infectious diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

In a statement released today, the foundation indicated that this funding will be distributed over the next three years through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

The statement described the Global Fund as one of the most effective life-saving initiatives of the 21st century.

In an interview with Reuters regarding this aid, Mr. Gates urged governments worldwide to halt the trend of reducing their health sector expenditures.

He stated, “The health situation for children around the world is worse than most people think, but our long-term outlook is better than people realize.”

This nearly $1 billion funding package comes at a time when countries around the world have been decreasing their foreign aid contributions to the health sector.
