KABUL: Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly criticized the United States for imposing severe restrictions on its diplomatic delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, said in a statement on his X account this morning, that the superficial limitations on the movement of diplomats, including their ability to purchase daily food items, represent a clear violation of U.S. commitments under the “Headquarters Agreement” and a new level of hostility from Washington towards Tehran.
He stated that the actual aim of the increasing restrictions by the U.S. is to “disrupt” Iran’s diplomatic functions at the United Nations.
Baqaei wrote that the systematic harassment of Iranian diplomats by the U.S. has prevented Iranian delegations from participating in several multilateral meetings that took place this week outside the so-called “permitted” areas.
Reports have also emerged regarding restrictions on visa issuance by the U.S. for some members of the Iranian delegation traveling to New York for the General Assembly.
