Heavy rain and flooding in Mexico: 64 dead and 65 missing

KABUL: Heavy rainfall, storm surges, and flooding in Mexico have resulted in 64 fatalities and 65 individuals reported missing.

The multi-media network NPR reported today, that severe weather has impacted five states in Mexico, damaging around 100,000 homes.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, stated in a press conference that the country is in a state of emergency and has sufficient resources to aid those affected.

Currently, 10,000 military personnel, along with civilian rescue teams, are assisting flood victims. Emergency supplies, including water and food, are being transported to 200 affected areas via helicopters.

According to the Civil Protection Agency of Mexico, the heavy rains in the state of Veracruz on the Gulf coast have resulted in 29 deaths, while 21 fatalities have been reported in the state of Hidalgo, north of Mexico City. At least 13 people have died in Puebla, east of Mexico City, and earlier, a child was killed in a landslide in the central state of Querétaro.

The current deadly rains in Mexico are attributed to two tropical systems forming off the country’s west coast.
