KABUL: Three days after a peace agreement was signed in Gaza with the presence of several world leaders in Egypt, United Nations experts have warned that without a clear roadmap for transitional justice, the peace established in the Gaza Strip is at risk.
The state media outlet TRT, citing Bernard Duhaime, the UN Special Rapporteur on promoting truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-recurrence, reported today.
The UN special rapporteur called for “the unveiling of the truth, accountability, reparation, and guarantees to prevent the recurrence of crimes,” emphasizing that “occupation and oppression” must end now.
Duhaime stated that peace is something to be pursued, not imposed.
He added: “Peace must be based on a clear commitment to justice and built on the recognition of the dignity of all parties, through inclusive dialogue with full participation of Palestinians.”
These remarks from the UN member come in the context of the signing ceremony of the peace agreement in Gaza, where none of the main parties (the Hamas movement and the occupying regime of Israel) were present.
