Trump meets Al-Sharaa at the White House: U.S. suspends “Caesar” law on Syria

KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa at the White House, stating that he will do everything possible for Syria’s success, Reuters reported early today.

Additionally, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, announced in a post on X that Washington has suspended the “Caesar” law to allow Syria to rebuild its economy.

The “Caesar” law is a package of U.S. sanctions against Syria, passed by Congress in 2019.

Rubio noted that the U.S. Departments of State and Treasury have published guidelines defining Washington’s aid to Damascus.

The Secretary of State cited the President’s expectation that the Syrian government will take practical steps to turn the page on its past and move toward peace in the region.

The meeting between President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and Donald Trump at the White House has been described as historic, as it is expected to position Syria alongside U.S. allies in the fight against extremist groups like ISIS.
