KABUL: Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has strongly condemned the raid by Israeli forces on the Sheikh Jarrah complex, which is affiliated with the UN.
In a post on his X account this morning, he stated that the Sheikh Jarrah facility, part of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied East Jerusalem, is inviolable and must be respected without any interference.
He wrote, “I urge Israel to immediately take all necessary actions to restore, maintain, and respect the sanctity of UNRWA premises and refrain from any further actions regarding these facilities.”
This follows a raid yesterday morning by Israeli police forces and municipal employees on the mentioned offices.
During the incursion, which involved heavy vehicles, the UN flag was taken down while the flag of the Israeli occupation was raised.
Furthermore, all IT equipment and furniture were seized, allegedly due to the offices’ debts, a claim that the UN has rejected.
