NEW YORK: As a result of an explosion and fire in a residential building in New York City at least one death and 15 injuries.
ABC7 today, the fire erupted from the 15th floor of a 17-unit residential complex known as Boston Secor Houses in the Eastchester area of New York City.
The cause of the explosion and fire has not yet been announced, and local officials are expected to provide details in a press conference.
Images shared on social media show extensive fire damage in the upper floors of the building.
Zahran Mamdani, the New York City mayor, is expected to visit the scene and meet with the families of the victims later today.
Local officials noted that the explosion and fire occurred while construction work was ongoing in the building, though the work was limited to the exterior of the structure.
