Araghchi thanks Pakistan for voting in favor of Iran at UN Human Rights Council

KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has expressed gratitude to Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar for Islamabad’s negative vote on a resolution proposed by Western countries against Iran at the United Nations Human Rights Council.

According to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday night, the Pakistani Foreign Minister emphasized his country’s “principled position” in respecting national sovereignty and opposing interference in the internal affairs of countries, as well as condemning terrorism, and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Tehran.

The statement quoted Araghchi as saying that the biased resolution proposed by several Western countries against Iran faced rejection from nearly half of the member states of the council, condemning the instrumental use of human rights issues to pressure independent countries.

The statement also noted that the foreign ministers of Iran and Pakistan discussed regional and international developments.

Two days ago, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution concerning the human rights situation and the suppression of recent protests in Iran with 25 votes in favor and 7 against.

China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Vietnam, and Cuba voted against this resolution.
