KABUL: At least three people, including the suspected gunman, were killed and three others critically injured in a deadly shooting during a hockey game in the United States, according to international media reports.
The Associated Press, citing U.S. police, reported late Monday that the shooting occurred during a hockey match at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in the city of Pawtucket, in the state of Rhode Island.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves told reporters that the suspect opened fire and later shot himself, dying at the scene. She said the injured victims were taken to the hospital and remain in critical condition.
Goncalves added that the incident appeared to be targeted in nature and may have stemmed from a domestic dispute. Authorities have not yet released details about the suspect’s age or the identities of those killed or wounded.
The shooting comes amid ongoing concerns about gun violence in the state. About two months ago, a separate armed attack in Rhode Island left two people dead and nine others injured, according to previous reports.
