Pakistan’s Interior Minister says militancy intensifying in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

LAHORE: Pakistan’s interior minister said violence which he described as terrorism is intensifying in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mohsin Naqvi, speaking at a news conference in Lahore, said the “fire of unrest” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased and warned that security conditions are also worsening in Balochistan, according to the Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune on Tuesday night.

Naqvi said political leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was failing to cooperate in what he described as a wartime situation, adding that without such cooperation, the fight against militancy could not succeed.

“This is not a normal situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or in parts of Balochistan,” he said. “Anyone who is alert and sees the situation clearly must offer a rational solution.”

The interior minister accused India of being responsible for recent unrest in Pakistan, alleging that New Delhi’s strategy involved portraying itself as a victim while covertly carrying out attacks.

Naqvi also urged Pakistan’s political parties and activists to prioritise what he called “wise actions” and to avoid creating unnecessary tensions.

His remarks came after the latest bomb attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed at least seven Pakistani soldiers, underscoring the escalating violence in the region.
