U.S. Vice President says Iran talks productive but Tehran rejects Trump’s red lines

KABUL: U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance described the second round of negotiations between American and Iranian delegations in Switzerland as “productive,” but said Iran has so far refused to accept key issues defined as red lines by President Donald Trump.

According to the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday night, in an interview with Fox News, Vance said while some aspects of the talks progressed well, and both sides agreed to meet again, Iran has yet to seriously engage on the critical issues Washington considers non-negotiable.

“In some areas, the negotiations went well. They agreed to meet again,” Vance said. “But it was also clear that the president had set some red lines that the Iranians are still not ready to fully accept or work on.”

He did not specify what Trump’s red lines were but emphasized that the core U.S. objective remains that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons.

The remarks come as Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, said after the talks concluded that a long path remains before an agreement is reached.

According to Araghchi, the Swiss negotiations included agreement on preparing draft proposals for potential deals by both sides, laying the groundwork for future discussions.
