Ukraine marks fourth year of Russia’s full-scale invasion

KABUL: Four years have passed since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a war that remains the largest and bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II.

The assault began on February 24, 2022, when Moscow initiated a ground and air offensive using modern military equipment.

Senior Russian generals were reportedly confident they could seize the country within 24 hours, instead, the war has dragged on into its fifth year with no clear end in sight.

According to France 24, Ukraine is set to mark the fourth anniversary of the invasion on Tuesday in the presence of senior European Union leaders.

Among those expected to attend commemorative events in Kyiv are Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and António Costa, President of the European Council, underscoring the bloc’s continued support for Ukraine.

As the conflict enters its fifth year, prospects for a negotiated settlement remain uncertain. Moscow insists it is determined to prevail, while Kyiv remains resolute in its efforts to repel Russian forces.

Meanwhile, U.S.-led diplomatic efforts aimed at pushing both sides toward a peace agreement appear to have stalled, largely over disputes concerning territories seized by Russian forces.
