KABUL: Pakistan’s military said at least 34 militants were killed in a series of operations in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and in Balochistan, as unrest intensifies across the country.
According to Associated Press, the military announced the casualties late Wednesday, claiming that 26 militants were killed in recent operations in Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and Mir Ali districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a separate statement, the army said eight suspected members of the Baloch Liberation Army were killed in Balochistan province.
Meanwhile, at least four senior Pakistani police officers were killed in an ambush by armed assailants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan later claimed the attack.
The military did not provide independent evidence to support its claims regarding the militant casualties.
Violence has surged in Pakistan in recent days.
On Tuesday evening, an explosion near the Dajil checkpoint in Punjab province left six people dead or wounded, including two police officers.
