KABUL: The Embassy of the United States, Islamabad has advised American citizens in Pakistan to heighten personal security measures following protests near U.S. consulates in Karachi and Lahore.
In a statement issued Sunday, the embassy said demonstrations in Karachi and Lahore have prompted calls for similar gatherings in the capital, Islamabad, and in Peshawar.
The embassy said it is closely monitoring protests in several Pakistani cities and urged U.S. citizens to follow local news and maintain strong personal security practices.
Recommendations include remaining aware of surroundings and avoiding large crowds.
The advisory comes after violent protests erupted near the U.S. consulate in Karachi following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader in U.S.-Israeli strikes.
The unrest has resulted in at least six fatalities and multiple injuries.
