U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran: UN Chief says region and world need an exit strategy

KABUL: Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has stated that in the wake of the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, both the region and the world urgently need a way out.

Guterres made the remarks on Saturday night during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. He described the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, occurring while indirect nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran were ongoing as deeply regrettable.

The UN chief called for an immediate reduction in tensions and a halt to hostilities between the parties involved.

He warned that failure to de-escalate could lead to a wider conflict with serious consequences for civilians and regional stability.

The Security Council convened an emergency session in response to the attacks on Iran, emphasizing the urgent need for diplomatic measures to prevent further escalation.
