KABUL: Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the former prime minister of Qatar, has called on Gulf countries not to be drawn into direct military confrontation with Iran despite recent tensions.
In remarks posted on his X account, he acknowledged that Iran had violated the sovereignty of member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. However, he warned that direct war would exhaust and weaken both sides, creating opportunities for external powers to expand their influence.
According to him, the ongoing crisis involving the United States, Israel, and Iran will eventually come to an end. But if GCC member states become directly involved in the conflict, it could result in long-term and heavy costs.
The former Qatari premier urged Gulf nations to adopt a unified stance against any aggression and to reject all forms of pressure or coercion.
