KABUL: The Embassy of the United States, in Islamabad has announced that consular services and visa processing have been temporarily suspended due to the ongoing security situation in Pakistan.
The embassy stated that the decision applies not only to Islamabad but also to U.S. consulates in Lahore and Karachi.
The move follows unrest in Karachi, where angry protesters reportedly attempted to enter U.S. consular premises after news of the death of Iran’s religious leader.
According to local media reports, Pakistani security forces opened fire to control the situation, resulting in at least 10 fatalities.
