KABUL: Iran’s Foreign Minister Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of committing a “heinous crime” by targeting the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena in international waters near Sri Lanka.
In a message posted on X on Thursday, Araghchi said the ship, carrying 130 sailors, was attacked without prior warning, claiming the crew was guests of the Indian Navy at the time of the incident.
Calling the strike a “brutal crime,” the Iranian foreign minister warned that Washington would “deeply regret the precedent it has created.”
Earlier, the Sri Lanka Navy reported rescuing dozens of crew members from an Iranian vessel that was sinking off the country’s coast.
