KABUL: The United States government, led by President Donald Trump, has approved the urgent sale of a weapons package worth $151 million to Israel, invoking emergency authority to bypass congressional review requirements.
According to a report published Saturday by Turkish media outlet TRT, in a statement, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs said the package includes 12,000 BLU-110A/B bombs, each weighing 1,000 pounds (about 453 kilograms), along with related engineering and technical support.
Part of the statement noted: “The Secretary of State had determined and provided justification that an emergency situation exists requiring the immediate sale to the Israeli government.”
The approval comes as the United States and Israel have been carrying out strikes against Iran for more than a week, reportedly using thousands of kilograms of bombs and hundreds of missiles, with the attacks still ongoing.
