Russia warns of escalating tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, offers mediation

KABUL: Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan, has expressed concern over rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan following the Pakistani military regime’s airstrikes on a drug rehabilitation center in the capital Kabul.

Speaking late Tuesday, Kabulov warned that escalating clashes between Kabul and Islamabad could develop into a full-scale war.

He added that Russia is ready to mediate between the two sides if requested.

The comments come after a reported Pakistani airstrike on a drug treatment hospital in Kabul, which Afghan authorities say caused heavy casualties.

The incident has drawn reactions from both internal and external, raising concerns over further deterioration in relations between the two neighbors.
