KABUL: Peter Magyar, the new Prime Minister of Hungary, has pledged that his country is committed to arresting individuals wanted by the International Criminal Court.
According to Anadolu Agency, citing Hungarian outlet Telex, Magyar made the remarks at the Hungexpo Congress and Exhibition Center in Budapest.
He confirmed that Hungary will remain a member of the ICC and halt the withdrawal process initiated last year under former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Magyar had previously vowed during his election campaign to reverse Orbán’s decision to leave the court.
The move follows the ICC’s arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Magyar’s statement comes ahead of a planned visit by Netanyahu to Hungary in October, where he is expected to attend events marking the 70th anniversary of Hungary’s uprising.
