Iran condemns U.S. seizure of vessel, calls for international action

KABUL: The Foreign Ministry of Iran has strongly condemned the seizure of an Iranian vessel by United States forces in the waters of the Gulf of Oman, describing the act as “illegal and barbaric.”

In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry said the ship, identified as “Toska,” was detained alongside intimidation of its crew and their families, calling the action “maritime piracy” and a “terrorist act.”

Tehran argued the incident violates fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and constitutes a “clear breach of the ceasefire” by the United States.

The ministry called on the United Nations Security Council and the International Maritime Organization to address the issue and urged responsible governments to condemn the incident and take serious action.

Iran also warned of “very dangerous consequences” stemming from the step and demanded the immediate release of the vessel, its crew, and their safe return to their families.

It further stressed that Tehran would use all available means to defend its national interests and security, adding that responsibility for any further escalation in the region would lie with Washington.
