KABUL: Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, says violations of commitments, ongoing “blockade,” and threats are the main obstacles to negotiations with the United States.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian stated on Wednesday night that Iran supports dialogue and agreements but criticized what he described as contradictions between U.S. rhetoric and actions.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliament speaker and head of the negotiating team, said a meaningful ceasefire requires an end to naval blockades and broader regional tensions.
Ghalibaf wrote that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be impossible “with a blatant violation of the ceasefire.” He said that after failing to achieve their objectives through military aggression, “they will also not succeed through force,” adding that the “only way” is acceptance of Iran’s rights.
The remarks come as former U.S. President Donald Trump has extended a ceasefire indefinitely, expressing hope that Iranian representatives will return to negotiations later this week.
