Oil extraction begins from five newly drilled wells in Amu Darya Basin

KABUL: Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced the beginning of oil extraction from five newly drilled wells in the Amu Darya Basin.
Spokesperson Homayoun Afghan said the wells were drilled in the “Zamrudsay” area of the basin, with extraction officially launched by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, during a visit to the site.
According to the ministry, the combined production capacity of the five wells is expected to reach around 500 cubic meters of oil per day.
The Amu Darya Basin, located in northern Afghanistan, is one of the country’s key oil-producing regions, where investment and extraction activities have accelerated in recent years.
