KABUL: Donald Trump, President of the United States, is dissatisfied with Iran’s newly proposed three-stage plan aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
Citing an anonymous U.S. official, the report says Trump’s dissatisfaction has reduced optimism about a potential breakthrough in the crisis.
According to the source, who attended a recent meeting between Trump and his advisers, Washington finds Tehran’s approach unacceptable, insisting that Iran’s nuclear program must be addressed from the outset of any negotiations.
White House spokesperson Olivia Wells was quoted as saying that the United States does not negotiate through the media and has clearly outlined its red lines.
Under Iran’s proposal, talks would begin with securing a permanent end to the war, followed by reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and only then addressing the country’s nuclear program in the final stage.
