KABUL: The National Procurement Commission has approved 19 development projects valued at 2.8 billion Afghanis during its latest session, officials said.

The meeting was chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and head of the commission, his office said in a statement today.

A total of 26 projects were presented at the commission, of which 19 were approved, while modifications were made to four others.

The approved and revised projects cover sectors including telecommunications equipment, road construction, electricity supply and distribution, and other development areas, funded by the government budget.

The statement added that a designated committee was tasked with reassessing the procurement process and pricing of one project. Another committee was assigned to negotiate pricing with qualified companies for a separate project. Additionally, one project was reopened for bidding after the winning company withdrew from implementation at the agreed price.
