Iran warns U.S. over Strait of Hormuz mission, says waterway “Not governed by statements”

KABUL: A senior Iranian lawmaker has issued a strong warning to the United States following the launch of a new military mission in the Strait of Hormuz.
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission, said any U.S. intervention in the strategic waterway would constitute a clear violation of the regional ceasefire in the Middle East.
He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf “cannot be managed through threatening remarks or social media posts” by Donald Trump, adding that Iran will not accept external pressure in the region.
Iranian officials reiterated that any foreign action in the area would be met with a serious response.
The remarks come after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the launch of “Operation Freedom,” a military mission ordered by Trump to secure commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
