Over 240 drone attacks recorded across Northwest Pakistan this year

KABUL: Pakistani security officials report a sharp rise in drone attacks targeting military personnel, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to a report by The Express Tribune, citing senior police official Zulfiqar Hameed, a total of 246 drone attacks have been recorded since the beginning of 2026. Authorities say many of these attacks were intercepted using advanced counter-drone systems.
Data shows that the majority of incidents occurred in Bannu with 215 cases, followed by Dera Ismail Khan (15), Malakand (7), Peshawar (4), and two each in Mardan and Kohat, while one incident was reported in the Hazara region.
Hameed warned that the use of drones reflects a “dangerous shift” in militant tactics, emphasizing the need for advanced technology and continuous surveillance to counter the threat.
While no group was specifically named in the report, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan has previously claimed responsibility for attacks on Pakistani forces in the region.
