Europe, Canada condemn Iran’s missile strikes on UAE

KABUL: Senior officials from the European Union and leaders of Germany, France, and Canada, in separate statements early today strongly condemned Iran’s reported missile and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates.

The reactions came after the UAE’s defense ministry said it had intercepted incoming Iranian projectiles targeting its territory.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, described the strikes as “unacceptable” and a “clear violation” of sovereignty and international law, warning that instability in the region has direct consequences for Europe.

Emmanuel Macron, President of France, called the attacks “unjustified and unacceptable,” affirming that France will continue supporting its allies in the UAE and the wider region.

Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, praised the UAE’s defensive efforts and reiterated calls for de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution.

Meanwhile, Friedrich Merz, Germany’s chancellor, said Berlin “strongly condemns” the attacks and stands in solidarity with the people of the UAE and regional partners.

International media reported that the strikes caused a fire at an oil and industrial site in Fujairah, while a state of emergency was declared in Dubai.
